Our approach goes beyond meal plans; it involves an understanding of your history & lifestyle, symptoms, diet and food habits, preferences, conventional + functional lab testing, and health goals to create a personalized care plan for you while integrating lifestyle factors, stress resilience, and mindfulness practices.

No two individuals are alike, and neither should their nutrition plans be. Our personalized care plans are designed to meet your specific needs, considering your goals, preferences, and any health challenges you may be facing.

Made with Barakah is a functional nutrition private practice based in Dallas, Texas.

The Functional nutrition private practice

How I became interested in Functional Nutrition

01.

My fascination with nutrition and health began as a teenager. I was always interested in the connection between food/nutrients, the impact it has on us, and the way that it can shape our entire lives. I would love to say that I became interested in health because of overcoming a chronic health condition through my own research but that is not the case. My goal was to lose weight after a year into homeschooling for high school left me a bit chubbier (I grew up on bagel bites, pizza rolls, nutty bars, oatmeal pies, sunny delight, cosmic brownies). I did everything the internet told me to lost weight. Smoothies, different fad diets, homemade motivation workout posters that said sweat is fat crying, only homemade green juices for all 30 days of Ramadan which left me with glowing skin and yes, i did drop the weight but wasn't nourishing my body in the way it needed.
*include hormonal acne and doxycycline use and how it lead me to research more into root cause approaches to heal conditions long term.*

The backstory

The Year I worked as a clinical dietitian

I worked as a Clinical Dietitian for a year solely for the experience. The hospital system is great at helping patients restore their health due to an acute care condition or a life threatening condition. It's not so great at helping patients restore their health that are dealing with chronic health conditions like type 2 diabetes, CKD,..
I personally did not feel like I was helping patients by giving them Boost supplements (from a company called Nestle that supports an active genocide) that have a ton of gut microbiome altering ingredients. I'm not hating on the role of clinical dietitians, it simply wasn't for me since my nutrition philosophy revolves around high quality food, targeted supplements, herbs as a healing modality.

02.

sick care System vs. preventive care

Food is essentially LIFE

Food is quite literally the building blocks of what shapes and creates our cells, the entire ecosystem we call our gut microbiome, our hormones - and ALL of these internal systems dictate the trajectory of our life from motivation and energy levels to our daily focus and mood.

When you properly nourish your body, you're nourishing your current and future self - those versions of you that uses high quality food and nutrients as a resource for optimal energy levels, clear focus, a balanced mood, and of course - a healthy weight. When you look your best you feel your best and vice versa.

With each bite of food, you're powering your body on for not only your daily activities but for the rest of your life. Your choosing the trajectory of your life by prioritizing nutrition and long term nourishment.

Why I'm passionate about nutrition & helping others improve their health

Tired of the Bandaid Approach Lifestyle?

Whether you're dealing with a chronic health condition, gut health issues, gut microbiome imbalances, hormonal imbalances, or simply want to prioritize your health, this approach addresses the root causes instead of a quick fix bandaid approach that only only masks symptoms. When you improve your nutrition, you improve every other aspect of your health. We look at the full picture of your health instead of just a snapshot.

What happens when we work together

I received my Bachelors of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods at the University of Houston. In between graduating and completing my dietetic internship at Illinois State University, I moved to Palestine and Istanbul where I completed a semester at Birzeit University in an MBA program as well as a 9 month program studying Islamic Sciences and Classical Arabic at the Ibn Haldun and Al-Madina Institute Arabic Program.

I went on to receive advanced training in Integrative and Functional Nutrition from The Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy (IFNA), in educational partnership with The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM).

I'm currently licensed in the state of Texas & helping clients with their health and nutrition goals from various states virtually.

You can find me getting my daily 10-20k steps in, checking my sleep score, reading up on the latest in nutrition, functional medicine, and health on my kindle (see what I'm reading here!), basking in the sun, baking sourdough bread, making batches of homemade yogurt, or trying out new cafes with family and friends!
